Online retailers have had a scorching summer with over two thirds (70%) admitting their sales were particularly good over the last few months, and revenues were up on 2010.
Skrill, the company behind online payments provider Moneybookers, surveyed its merchants across a range of different industries and found that online retailers were so confident, over half held a summer sale (51%). Meaning consumers were guaranteed to find fantastic savings online this summer.
This confidence is in direct contrast to conditions on the high street where sales have grown slowly by just 1.5%*.
Martin Ott, Co-CEO of Skrill says, “Our merchants have reported fantastic sales over the summer months. It seems that a combination of the wash-out weather and people escaping away on holiday has had a very positive effect on online sales as consumers look to the ease and convenience of shopping online for key purchases.”
